Hello, I am Haratake, a dual farmer.
So my time of struggle at the citizen’s farm has passed.
It has been three years since I started my new job, and with the recession, I have a lot more time on my hands. I now have a lot more time on my hands.
From the end of winter to spring of early 2025, I read many books to find out how to grow delicious vegetables.
Many of these books were about natural farming methods.
For example, a book by Akinori Kimura, famous for his “The Miracle Apple”.
It is the story of how he stopped spraying insecticides on his apple trees, and after 10 years of no apple harvest,
he was able to harvest miraculously delicious apples by improving the soil (it is not such a simplistic story).
(It can’t be that simple.) There are many books that explain not only how to grow apples, but also how to grow other vegetables.
Broadly speaking, Luther taught, “First sow beans, then plant wheat.
The beans will store nitrogen in the soil, and the strong roots of the wheat will cultivate the soil.
It is a farming method that borrows the power of nature and leaves it to nature.
Next is the Kin-chan(Kin means fungus) farming method invented by Toshimichi Yoshida.
This is a farming method practiced at “Kin-chan farm” in Kyushu region,
that encourages ecosystem activity by minimizing the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides. Grass and leaves that have been exposed to wind and rain for several months are mixed into the soil on high, wide ridges and covered with a sheet to encourage the growth of fungi.
