Grass cutting operation

Hello. I am Haratake, a part-time farmer.

Even though Obon has passed, the temperatures have remained high. How are you all doing? I feel like it’s gotten a little cooler in the mornings, but the nights are still hot. Because of that, there’s a lot of dew on the grass in the fields. When I walk through the grass, my lower body gets wet right away.

Anyway, I’ve arrived at Field No. 2! The grass has spread everywhere, and it’s hard to tell if it’s natural farming or neglectful farming. The owner couldn’t bear to see it anymore and had someone cut some of the weeds on the farm road side. I’m truly sorry. From now on, I’ll try to cut the weeds little by little.

As for the edamame, their growth is not going well. They’re growing slowly, or perhaps they’ve already reached the stage where they won’t grow anymore!? Edamame is said to have a harvest window of only three days. Have we already missed that window…? In any case, the beans are too small to eat. Unfortunately, most of the edamame may end up being discarded. Next time, I’ll try adding more compost to the field. I realize now that I didn’t add enough.

On the other hand, the okra is thriving. It has started to produce a lot of pods recently. However, many of them have become too large and hard. I’ve been growing okra since I first started the field, but it never reaches the ideal firmness you find in stores. I wonder why… The harvest window for okra is also short, I think. During hot weather, they can grow several centimeters in a single day. This means I have to check them multiple times a day, not just every three days. Okra might be a plant that requires some degree of waste.

Finally, or rather, most of today was spent on weed cutting. I just kept cutting and cutting… But the weed cutter only lasts about 30 minutes on a single battery charge. After that, I continued weed cutting by hand. This grass-cutting tool I started using this time! It ruthlessly cuts into the soil and pulls weeds out by the roots. It must be durable, but that’s to be expected. It’s no wonder it’s so popular on Amazon. Actually, I bought it at a souvenir shop during a weekend trip. I’ve been looking for a reliable tool to efficiently weed by hand, like a sickle or something.

Well, that’s all for now. See you next time!
