Cut and cut again

Hello. I’m Haratake, a part-time farmer.

September has already arrived. Lately, various personal issues have erupted, and I haven’t been able to get to the field much… Not that I’m just giving up, but I’m telling myself it’s necessary to accept that what can’t be done simply can’t be done, haha. After all, what matters most is family, my children.

Now, since it’s September, it means I need to start sowing seeds for winter vegetables soon. The main ones would be Chinese cabbage and daikon radish, I suppose. But my field is completely overrun with weeds—it’s not even close to being ready for that. As I mentioned earlier, I’m already in full acceptance mode, so I plan to do what I can with the time I have available. If it doesn’t work out, well, that’s just how it goes.

And obviously, the first thing to tackle is weed cutting, haha. I’m using my electric weed trimmer to cut down the weeds starting from the outer edges where they’re most bothersome. That said, the battery only lasts 30 minutes, so I can only manage a rough cut… How long will it take to clear all this grass, I wonder…? Still, I managed to pile up this much grass in about three days.

Then, I steadily cut the grass along the rows by the path. I heard Chinese cabbage won’t sprout if you miss the window, and that deadline is mid-September. I want to finish mowing by then, but who knows how it’ll go… Still, I managed to mow a decent area. If I can keep mowing like this, I should be able to grow a good amount of cabbage. This alone feels a bit insufficient, so I want to mow a little more…

The goal of finishing the mowing is still just the beginning. A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. Well then, see you next time~
